Another one of my Heroes, gone....

This is an article about a celebrity local to Baby Boomers in the Pittsburgh, PA, USA general area.

A childhood favorite icon of mine and many others my age in the Pittsburgh area has just died in recent days. Don Riggs was a major part of my early Saturday mornings in the 1960's. He was known as "Bwana Don" and his program was "Safari" and he showed our favorite "Tarzan" movies, which I loved! Even as Don Riggs moved on to new adventures, he was a long time favorite TV personality and someone who knew the "common folk" and talked honestly and straight to them. We knew what he said was honest and he was highly regarded as a talented broadcaster. He will be sorely missed by many!

So, as another issue of growing older hits home, we see our childhood heroes and celebrities pass on.

There are some CEO execs who "Get It"!!!!

I just had to post this story from CBS's Sunday Morning because in these record breaking economic times, there are actually executives who head companies in this world who understand what is going on and realize that EVERY person in any company share not only the good times, but the bad times as well and that the majority of corporations who follow the selfish, take care of ourselves because we are special... will eventually end up sinking their own boat.

BRAVO to the few CEO's who "GET IT" !!!

Six more weeks of winter!!!

Groundhog's Day is an event that, if you're from the Pittsburgh, PA area, you have known about most of your life. Obviously with the hit movie of Bill Murray's, it became much more nationally known. It's just a fun thing that most people who attend, do so to have a bit of fun in the middle of a Pennsylvania bleak winter. This year, it came at the same time as everyone was waking up after a night of celebration of the Pittsburgh Steelers winning their 6th Superbowl. I mean, the city and most of the western part of the state of Pennsylvania are pretty much flying with good feelings today....and in these tuff economic times....is a good thing!

So, for the fun of it, check out Punxsutawney Phil's website for information about the history and Phil's 2009 prediction for winter!

Phil Says "Six More Weeks of Winter!"

Phil's official forecast as read February 2nd, 2009 at sunrise at Gobbler's Knob:
Hear Ye Hear Ye

On Gobbler's Knob this glorious Groundhog Day, February 2nd, 2009

Punxsutawney Phil, Seer of Seers, Prognosticator of all Prognosticators

Awoke to the call of President Bill Cooper

And greeted his handlers, Ben Hughes and John Griffiths

After casting a joyful eye towards thousands of his faithful followers,

Phil proclaimed that his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers were World Champions one more time

And a bright sky above me

Showed my shadow beside me.

So 6 more weeks of winter it will be.

Paul Newman dies at 83!

I know this is all over the Internet, but I just had to put my 2 cents worth in. Paul Newman was, without a doubt, my favorite actor of all time! He was just one of those guys who, even though he was a heartthrob in his youth, even men could love him. You couldn't help loving his "coolness". One of my most favorite moves of his was "The Long Hot Summer", with his wife, Joanne Woodward. If you've never seen it, rent it. His characters in his movies were someone women loved to look at and men wanted to be. Even in recent years, his acting seemed to get better in spite of his loss of that youthful face.

We all, especially the Boomer generation, have truly lost a giant of our times!
